Body lift

Body Lift procedure can remove the excess skin that has resulted from massive weight loss. Body lift, sometimes referred to as lower body lift or belt lipectomy removes the skin and fat in a circumferential manner along the lower abdomen, lateral thighs and lower back area. This results in improvement of the abdomen, lateral thighs, and gluteal (buttock) area. Body lift procedure will flatten the abdomen, smooth out the thighs and remove the sagging skin from the buttocks.

Ideal patients for the lower body lift are patients that have stabilized from their massive weight loss surgery and have been able to maintain their current weight for the past 3 to 6 months. The procedure may take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours and involves an overnight stay at a recovery center.

This procedure is usually the first procedure undertaken in patients who have undergone weight loss from gastric bypass surgery to gastric banding (lap band). The resultant scar which is circumferential is placed low on the abdominal, lateral thigh and gluteal area, and can often be well hidden in bathing suits. Recovery takes about 2-4 weeks and most patients return to full activity, including exercise at 6 weeks.
